Airspeed Aviation has opened a Tamworth flying school facility to train private pilots and Commercial Pilots. The facility is also intended to act as an airline pilot academy for Airspeed’s Northwest Airlines project.

Tamworth has not had a flying school available to the general public for nearly two years, with flying students forced to drive to Gunnedah, Armidale or Scone to receive training.

Students learning through Airspeed Aviation will start training on the 2-seat Grob G115, moving on to larger 4- and 6-seat aircraft. Students can start training as young as 14; they can fly solo at age 15 and hold a licence from the age of 16.
